Some Ol' Story

This past Saturday night, something terrible happened at our apartment in Ashland. It got busted into. Weird huh?

Yep, you heard it right our little home away from home was burglarized. It happened when none of us were, thankfully, for some of us that is. Steve wished he was there to take on the guys, but I said that we would probably have to fill out a murder report instead of loss of possession report.

We didn't find out until Sunday evening that the report had actual happened. Mrs. Pimentel, Davy's mom called him on his cell and told him that some Detective called saying there was a break in at our apartment. Immediately all three of us were thinking if we had left anything really valuable down there. Steve said no, I said maybe, and Davy said not really either. I had left practically all my cd's and dvd's down there and thought they were a goner immediately. Davy had his computer monitor, a guitar, and some other game consoles and video games.

The Detective lady told us that the door had had significant damage done to it.

Then this morning the three of piled into Steve's very tight and uncomfortable car and drove down to the apartment. Well when we got there we were all kind of excited. We were like "wow this is just like CSI." So when got to the front door I was expecting to see the door just hanging off the hinges with big dents on it, but the door looked almost the same as when we had left it. Only around the locks did it look like it had been dented in. So after opening it we went and looked around. I was expecting the place to ransacked(man!, I have been watching way to many spy movies!), but again the place looked completely normal. I quickly dodged, skipped, and trotted to my room in fearful desperation. I had been having nightmares about this all night last night. Coming to the apartment and finding it tared completely apart in a million pieces and all my stuff gone. But when I arrived at my door I noticed nothing missing. My cd's hadn't left, my dvd's where right were I left them. Interesting, I thought. The only thing that was a little out of place was that they had open one of draws by my bed and didn't take anything. I felt relieved! Whew! Then I went to Steve's room and looked around. He kept ranting and raving about how these crooks are really retarded. Nothing was missing from his room, they had just opened abunch of his draws and moved his mattress to look under it for any loose money. They didn't even take his 50 dollar gift certificate to the SOU bookstore that was in plain site on his dresser. While he kept closing draws I told him he should not do that because he may be messing up fingerprints, oh well. Then I checked out Davy's room and looked around. He came to me and pointed the only thing he saw missing was a big bin that had lots of video games and game consoles that was gone and figured that all of it was worth to around 3 or 4 hundred dollars, but that was all they had took.

After this we went to office to see what they do in these situations. And like always, no one was in the office. So I had to call the lady, who was cleaning somewhere, to come down to the office. When she came down we reported what had happened. She didn't seem too surprised. We told her we thought the door needed a little work and asked about were the police station was. She didn't know.

So we left the apartment and went downtown in search of the fire department. We found that and thought it was really cool to go into a fire department. So we went in there and asked for directions to the police department. The lady gave them to us, we thought. So we got back again in this really small car, that Steve likes to call a "hot rod" and drove around for alot longer than it should have taken to find the police station. So we went in and asked about if we had to fill our a report of missing and whether there was anything we could do and whether or not Steve was a terrorist or not. Ok, not really, but we sat around there for pretty much nothing. Davy figured it would take to long to report his missing items so he said forget it. So we went back to apartment and gather up the rest of our valuables and went back home.

All of us think it was the guys the next door who did it, but we don't really know. Our place is kind of secluded, so it would be kind of hard to find it.

Anyway the lesson that God is teaching me in this incident is to fight fire with fire! So the three of planned to bust into the guys next door next Saturday! HAHAHA! no, we arn't.

Material goods aren't forever. Lets lay up our treasure in Heaven were robbery can't get it, ok? ok!

I am tired now...hope this makes cents.

oh, BTW, Mrs. Sommerfeld was worried that the silver ware got stolen, I hope you weren't either. :)

Why Athletes can't hold down a real job

Chicago Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson on being a role model: "I wan' all dem kids to do what I do, to look up to me. I wan' all dem kids to copulate me."

New Orleans Saint RB George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season: "I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."

And, upon hearing Joe Jacobi of the 'Skins say: "I'd run over my own mother to win the Super Bowl,"Matt Millen of the Raiders said: "To win, I'd run over Joe's Mom, too."

Torrin Polk, University of Houston receiver, on his coach, John Jenkins: "He treats us like men. He lets us wear earrings."

Football commentator and former player Joe Theismann, 1996: "Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein."

Senior basketball player at the University of Pittsburgh: "I'm going to graduate on time, no matter how long it takes." (now that is beautiful)

Bill Peterson, a Florida State football coach: "You guys line up alphabetically by height." And, "You guys pair up in groups of three, then line up in a circle." (My personal favorite!)

Boxing promoter Dan Duva on Mike Tyson hooking up again with promoter Don King: "Why would anyone expect him to come out smarter? He went to prison for three years, not Princeton ."

Stu Grimson, Chicago Blackhawks left wing, explaining why he keeps a color photo of himself above his locker: "That's so when I forget how to spell my name, I can still find my clothes."

Lou Duva, veteran boxing trainer, on the Spartan training regime of heavyweight Andrew Golota: "He's a guy who gets up at six o'clock in the morning regardless of what time it is."

Chuck Nevitt, North Carolina State basketball player, explaining to Coach Jim Valvano why he appeared nervous at practice: "My sister's expecting a baby, and I don't know if I'm going to be an uncle or an aunt." (I wonder if his IQ ever hit room temperature in January)

Frank Layden, Utah Jazz president, on a former player: "I told him, 'Son, what is it with you? Is it ignorance or apathy?' He said, "Coach, I don't know and I don't care."

Shelby Metcalf, basketball coach at Texas A&M, recounting what he told a player who received four F's and one D: "Kid, looks to me like you're spending too much time on one subject."

Amarillo High School and Oiler coach Bum Phillips when asked by Bob Costas why he takes his wife on all the road trips, Phillips responded: "Because she is too ugly to kiss good-bye." (Dead man walking.)

Kudos to Steve...

Southside of Town

Well whats going on down here?

Classes are going well. So far I think I like computer science the best, then music, then math and physics. In computer science we doing some very basic programing which is fun to design stuff and see the work you do come about.

In music class we are going to the ordinary songs of the mass in the catholic church. Very interesting. Such as the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. We had to listen to these songs and I liked the Gloria and Sanctus the best.

In Math we are learning about Statistics. Fun! Pretty straight forward. My teacher is really slow on some things, but really fast on others and it seems like most of the class knows more than he does about certain subjects.

In physics we have just been assigned to our teams for our mock hearing that we are going to do. We are doing a HICCUP(Hypothetical Integrated Combined Cycle Utility Power Plant). Some of the teams our Labor, Environmentalist, Community...etc. My team is the Citing Council and we get to decide if we want to build this power plant or axe it. Everyone has to write a paper on for or against certain Issues in their certain group. Some of the Issues are like Need for electricity, Air quality, Water supply, Land use....etc. This should be interesting.

Lets see, living in Ashland....hmmm....pretty good. The town is pretty small. I only know one side of the town. Uh, Steve and Davy are fun to live with. We are not at each others throats.................yet. This past week we ate some hamburgers, burritos(I made them!!!), and pizza together. Oh yeah, we had some green flaky things too. :) I saw Brian this morning before music class, so it is cool to see a familiar face in the crowd. Also Stephen Mader is in my Math class.

Well I guess there is nothing else to report....thanks for your prayers!
How about an "apod"?

Home away from Home

I spent my first night in Ashland last night and it went well.

XIVth

I have been "busy" getting ready to live down in Ashland. Packing up things, buying things, moving things, unloading things. etc. I got to see my aparmetn for the first time on Wednesday and it looks pretty good. A nice fit for us three.

Wednesday was my sister's birthday. she turned 17! So this a belated happy Birthday Molly! I said it in person already. It was fun! We watched The Ulimate Gift which was good/pretty good. Played a game, ate some cake and ice cream. Saturday is my mom's birthday. Yipee! More food and ice cream.

I am right listening to music by this composer, Justin Durban. He writes his own music and divides into different styles, like epic, drama, action, etc. He is pretty good and he lets you download it. Very neat!

I am right now reading a book by Tim Downs called Head Game about how one of this guy's friends commits suicide and he doesn't know why? I just started it and it is pretty cool.

Tommorrow is Wash for life that i am going to go to and express my skills as an automoble cleaner. Hopefully someone can wash my car too.

And now a random picture to send you on your way this Friday, a day of Serenity!

See the six rainbows! :)

Great Book!

Title: Hood

Author: Stephen R. Lawhead

I first saw this book in stores about a year ago and I was crazy about it. I had just finished reading his Song of Albion trilogy, so I was ready for more, but it has taken over a year before I was able to read it and I wish I had started it sooner because it is awesome!

The story is Lawhead's take on the Robin Hood legend which made me even more excited to read this. The story takes place in Wales and our folk hero is Bran the son of King of the land of Elfael. When Bran's father, the king, is killed in an ambush along with nearly all his warriors, the land of Elfael is overtaken and its citizens subjected to great oppression. Though Bran should be king, he has lost faith in what he believed and decides to flee instead. Through agony and adventure, aided by a ragtag group of colorful characters, his sense of justice grows, along with his commitment to leading the people of Elfael and his creative strategies for dealing with the enemy. Lawhead examines questions of faith from both sides of the conflict, so you see Welsh monks praying for deliverance and Norman rulers asserting their divine right to the land. The story's tone is uneven—by turns sweet, violent, and funny that will leave you anxious for the next installment.

The next book Scarlet is slated to hit shelves sometime at the beginning of September and I am ready for it. Are U?
My Rating: *****(5 stars)!

Lightning Crashes!

This is a picture I took last night during the really cool thunder storm! I was out there for about 45 minutes waiting for a good flash and when I thought it was over I would put the camera away. Then all of a sudden a bright flash would happen....and I would be like take a picture, take a picture! That happened a couple of times. Oh well, this is the best picture I took.

Idaho Trip pic #3

Here we are outside playing with River. We were trying to teach him to catch and throw the Frisbee, but he wasn't too goo at it. I taught him how to open his arms wide like an alligators mouth, but he could not quite catch the Frisbee every time. Most of the time he would just run around in the grass having a good time.

Idaho Trip pic #2

Here is a great picture with Jeremy and I getting to hold our niece and nephew. We had to sweep them up before they realized what was happening. They were a little scared around us, Felicity more so than River. River was really rowdy and crazy around us, with Jeremy the most.
Stay tuned for another pic tommorrow. All this week are Idaho pics.

....On and On

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

My Kraving!

I had this craving tonight that started almost as soon as I got to astronomy class.

I was craving these yogurt covered pretzels which makes the Sun seem to shine a little brighter, the spring in one's step higher, the twinkle in one's eye shine that much clearer. I had to have these pretzels.
So as soon as break rolled around in astronomy class I was out the door and down to the vending machine in a flat five parsecs. As I scanned the vending machine my eyes beheld the bag of scrumpish delight. Pure joy filled me! My mouth started to water, my eyes became crossed eyed, my nose could smell those pretzels through the machine. I reached into my pocket frantically searching for my change....where is it? where is it? Finally, I could feel that soft copper in my hand. I smile spread across my face. :)=like this! As I moved my hand from my pocket, which contained 4 crisp quarters, something caught my eye. My breath went from my mouth, my fingers started to shake, all life was draining....the vending machine was out of order! :( I was crushed, shaken to my core. My craving was starting to take over me, but I maintained control and decided I didn't need those pretzels tonight anyway. So I just turned my back and I left that place behind. So it was a happy end to the story after all. I left that place feeling satisfied I had overcome the machine. Yes!

Oh, by the way, on the way home from astronomy class I stopped at Wal-Mart and bought some pop tarts! I had to seal my victory with a celebration. :)

11:45

I wrote this poem that I thought made sense
Then realized I was talking nonsense
So I sat down to rewrite it and found
The making of a perfectly good sound

If you tap your toes and clap your hands
You may soon find yourself in the making of a good band
If you stomp your feet and snap your digits
You may find yourself shorter than some midgets

As this sound floated through my head I wondered
Could this be true or was the sound thundered
I arose from my desk fully alive
Then asked myself why am I up at 11:45?

"The Art of Music"

"The Staircase""The Connection"

"The Transformation" "The Beginning"
"The Presence"

I spend late night hours working on names for these special tools that make up the foundation, the essence, the heart of music in my life. May you be touched as you view these images. This is for real folkes. Amazing, simply amazing! Brings a smile to my face. :)
